International students who are to attend an academic or an English language program at a US university require an F1 visa. Students applying for an F1 visa must be going for a full time course in a US college or university. As per the F1 visa, a student can stay in the US for a minimum of 60 days or until their academic program ends. They can also extend their stay if they have applied for the OPT program and been allowed to work in the US after the completion of their academic program. Going by the expiration date of their I-20 form, all F1 students are expected to complete their academic program by then. The I-20 form is provided by the US institution the student has been admitted to and is going to attend.
